Lighting & Meters, also refers as light meter, are used for determining and measuring the quantity of light. In photography a light meter is helpful to measure the ideal contact of a photograph. Light Meter is an extremely helpful accessory in the area of photography. Especially in the circumstances where the object is placed in light and the light is significantly different from the place where the photographer is standing. A light Meter resolves this dilemma and permits to capture pictures from a certain distance.
The camera lighting and meters are used to enlighten and balance the pictures. When looking for the camera equipment, lighting selections can create the difference between fade, hued and unwanted photos. An inside photo shoot that has appropriate camera lighting equipment causes few filter faults in the long run.
So while taking high quality pictures then there should be proper lighting for the location or situation. If there is no sufficient light then the artificial light, also known as strobe lighting, is needed. There are different types of techniques in order to control the lighting.
Flash
Some cameras are sold with a fixed flash while some require removable flashes which are bought separately. Some cameras allow the abuser to direct how fast, soft, or hard the light should flash. Flashes are used to lighten a shot for a short time. If the built in flash is not enough then hand held units can be used.
Floodlights
Another tool used for camera lighting is floodlights. A floodlight spreads a strong and large flash all over the area filling the room or space with light. Several organizations presents motion detection floodlights which turns on when anything comes into its path or range.
Professional Lighting
Studio lighting is generally used while doing model shoots. Further lighting tools are spotlights, moonlights and light fixtures. A specialized portrait photographer uses one to four spotlights with parallel light umbrellas in order to generate eye-catching photograph. This technique is used to reduce or eliminate lighting faults and keep the focus on the subject.
While selecting the digital camera light meter either goes for reflective meter or incident light meter. Reflective meter calculates the amount of light that is bounces back after hitting an object. Incident light meter calculates the amount of light that lands on the surface of an object. A tiny white dome tells the photographer where to shift the camera in order to get good quality shot.
A problem with reflective light meters is that it varies with the color of the subject, as on white the light will be more as compare to black. Yet, in spite of this problem reflective light meters are used in cameras because it is the most excellent method of calculating light at a distance.
Digital camera light meters are incorporated with point and shoot cameras. Expensive camera designs permit the abuser to pick the settings for specific lighting for specific day.
Camera Lighting Kit
Camera lighting kits are also available in the market in different shapes and sizes. Their price varies, depending on the brand and accessories it incorporates, from hundred dollars or more. Portable lighting kits are famous among photographers such as the, Cubelite kits by Lastolite or studio kit from Sakar International.
Few photographers make their own homemade camera lighting kit in order to shot petite objects such as jewelry. For this, 2 to 3 table top lights are used and are placed on a box tent made with the help of wire and white fabric. In order to mute and balance the light white fabric is used, whereas eradicating the nearby shades.
