Spotlights are primary source of light for photography. A spotlight will shine a fine, intense and hard light beam that is produced through an undiffused clear flash tube. Fresno lens or a small reflector with a mirror finish is very good in order to control and focus the spotlight.

Spotlights are pretty strong and they can generate light that is almost same as sunlight on a clear sunny day. The light rays generated from a spotlight are straight and sharp. Spotlights will make crisp shades that are hard and have sharp defined ends. These types of lights are usually used in the studio and theatre to emphasize a certain attribute of the object or used as a background light. Spotlights are obtainable in different sizes, shades, and powers.

Spotlight doesn’t refer to a huge, hot and vivid light used for actors who are performing on stage or on theater. In fact, spotlight holds a significant position when shooting small objects. It also helps in maintaining the object sharp and helps in color balancing with high contrast capabilities.

There are different types of spotlight some of them are:

Spotlights are portable, handy and can easily adjust on stands. Rechargeable spotlights have battery mount that plugs in to a wall opening.

Wild life photographers utilize an infrared spotlight to take pictures of animals, for instance tigers, lions, elephant and so on. IR spotlights or infrared spotlights can also shoot at night as it has night vision qualities. This makes possible to take clear pictures at night and seems as if it is taken during daylight hours. The night vision has a limited range of colors. Cheaper spotlights create rough black and white or greenish sort of photograph.

An LED spotlight used light emitting diodes which generate softer light by using a lot fewer energy as compare to other spotlights. To have different angle effects in a large room it is good to use few LED panel spotlights.

Table top spotlights help in shooting smaller items like flowers in a vase, jewelry, electrical tools and in depth artwork. The majority of spotlights produce harsh light that might bounce back from solid or glittery plane such as metal. Snoots, grids and barn doors use to manage hard spotlighting. A snoot is like a long tube which slides above the light to control or assist in softening light effects. A barn door carries out a some what same action. It is made up of 4 flaps which look like a box. Each of these movable flaps is moved by the photographers in order to display more or less light on the objects.

Spotlights are obtainable in various sizes from miniature clip on lamps to huge area lamps. They also have different range of prices starting from a few dollars for a single spotlight to more than a couple thousand dollars for spotlight photography kits. Most of the photographers employ spotlight photography in stock photos for private use and occasionally permit commercial and public use.
